The Role of a Pharmacist in Lifestyle and Weight Management

This course is designed to empower the pharmacist to feel more comfortable managing a patient's lifestyle and weight loss journeys. We will discuss background information related to weight management/obesity guidelines and corresponding pharmacotherapy options available for treatment. Additionally, the course will offer tips and techniques for pharmacists to utilize in health coaching sessions designed to manage lifestyle/weight modifications.

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Summarize clinical guidelines for obesity and weight management.
  2. Identify the pros and cons of medications used for weight loss.
  3. Describe the potential benefits versus risks of dietary supplements for weight loss.
  4. Discuss lifestyle modifications pharmacists can adapt for specific patients for weight loss and maintenance.
  5. Develop a plan to utilize health coaching skills to aid patients in achieving their weight management goals.
