In an era of direct-to-consumer advertising, both healthcare providers and patients increasingly turn to pharmacy professionals for insights on recently FDA-approved medications. Consequently, it is imperative for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to stay well-informed about new medications to ensure accurate dispensing and the provision of effective education to patients and providers. This educational session is designed to offer an overview of several medications that have gained FDA approval in the last 12 to 18 months, focusing on key essential information for each newly approved drug.

Learning Objectives - Pharmacists
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the therapeutic indications of recent FDA-approved medications.
  2. Describe unique pharmacological properties for each new medication.
  3. Recall common side effects, contraindications, known drug interactions, and/or warnings associated with each new medication.
  4. Identify available dosage forms and standard doses available for each new medication.
  5. Summarize potential barriers related to the implementation and/or utilization of each new medication at practice sites.
