Change is Inevitable: Updates in the Management of Asthma Therapy

The national asthma guidelines (GINA) are reviewed annually and have recently been updated to include new therapy options for patients with asthma. This course will summarize the most current asthma management recommendations so pharmacists can assess patient risk factors, recommend appropriate medications, assist in the management of triggers and exacerbations, and provide effective counseling for patients living with asthma.

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recall the pathophysiology of asthma.
  2. ​Describe the cornerstones of pharmacotherapy for asthma.
  3. Identify effective treatment plans for stable asthma and/or asthma exacerbations.
  4. Explain the educational needs of patients receiving treatment for asthma.
  5. Develop a comprehensive monitoring plan to assess safe and effective pharmacotherapy for asthma.
